Zeiningen, Switzerland (PRWEB) March 21, 2005 -- Douglas Connect announces
the formation of a Community of Practice (CoP) for Drug Safety Knowledge
Management. Dedicated to creating a Drug Safety Body of Knowledge, the CoP will
hold its first InterAction meetings in Philadelphia, PA (April 25-26) and Basel,
Switzerland (May 30-31), supported by ongoing collaboration through
InnovationWell™, a broader-based CoP for integrating knowledge management across
the pharmaceutical, life science and healthcare industries.
As Sidney Kahn, president of Pharmacovigilance & Risk Management, Inc. and one of the community's founders, said "Recent events have highlighted the strategic value to pharmaceutical companies of ongoing careful evaluation of drug safety information. Unfortunately, current structures and practices often do not allow ready access to the comprehensive body of information on all aspects of safety that companies accumulate throughout the product life cycle, which hampers both early detection and subsequent evaluation of unexpected safety findings."
Another CoP founder, James Averback of Life Science Integration Partners, continued "We need to develop information practices and systems that can identify early signals, evaluate and track potential safety hypotheses throughout a product's life and which are optimized for this type of long term knowledge integration. By bringing together expertise from across the board of drug development in a non-competitive environment where ideas, practice information and technical know-how can be exchanged in an ongoing dialog, we believe we can improve organizational appreciation for and use of drug safety knowledge throughout product development and clinical use."
"InnovationWell provides an excellent vehicle for this ongoing dialog," said InnovationWell's Community Coordinator, Barry Hardy of DouglasConnect, "as all one-to-many communications, such as presentations, seminars or position papers, can be made permanently available to members through the website, leaving all the time at the InterAction meetings free for panel discussions, sub-group activities and individual networking. A unique feature of the format is that registrants at either meeting will also have full access to all the virtual materials from the other meeting and can participate in the regular conference calls we'll be having on specific topics. Recordings of these conference calls will also be put on the website and, together with various online communication facilities, will facilitate ongoing collaboration."
In addition to Sidney Kahn and James Averback, discussion leaders include Sheryl Torr-Brown of Pfizer, Peter Elkin of the Mayo Clinic, Jeff Spitzner of Rescentris, Douglas Weidner of the KM Institute and Eric Neumann of Sanofi-Aventis.
